On the other hand for any complicated sound work, layered music and effects, interactive sound and so on Unity's tools quickly become cumbersome and limited, as does needing to work in the Unity scene to do lots of the sound work and mixing, so using Wwise or FMOD makes more sense. Based on that, I'd say it depends on the project, what kind of audio you are planning on doing, if you want to make interactive music, and if you plan on doing a proper audio mix (like you should) at some point.įor a simple game where you just need some quick sound effects, and maybe a background music, Unity's tools are OK and you don't need to worry about the licensing fees larger projects would have with FMOD and Wwise. I've been using both WWise & FMOD, and also the built-in sound stuff.
